VHS Concert Band
The VHS Concert Band is a large performing ensemble open to all students who play a woodwind, brass, or
percussion instrument. It is a graded class at VHS, which meets every
day during school for 40 minutes. Band students learn basic and
advanced concepts in musicianship, instrumental techniques, theory, and
performance practice. The band plays traditional and contemporary
music. They perform in a winter and spring concert at the high school,
as well as competing in the New Jersey Teen Arts Festival, and playing at
the high school's graduation ceremony.
In the 2001- 2002 school year, the Concert Band was invited to perform at the Statewide Teen Arts
Festival. This past year they performed Suite of Old American
Dances I. Cakewalk and Jupiter form Gustav Holsts' The
Planets.
